Self Presentation
The Future Agricultures Consortium (FAC) was an Africa-based alliance of research organisations seeking to provide timely, high-quality and independent information and advice to improve agricultural policy and practice in Africa.
Through a network of over 90 researchers across the region and around the world, FAC showed how agricultural policy in Africa can help to reduce poverty and strengthen agricultural growth.
Research and analysis focused on the political economy of agricultural policy processes in Africa examining how and why decisions are made, the condition for change, and the practical and policy challenges of establishing and sustaining pro-poor agricultural growth.
The research is organised into themes: commercialisation, growth and social protection, pastoralism, climate change, young people, land, policy processes, science technology and innovation, gender and social difference, and Brazil and China in Africa.
The Consortium in collaboration with Southern partners worked on:
Southern Africa: focusing on Malawi
Horn of Africa: focusing on Ethiopia
East Africa: focusing on Kenya
The Agricultural Policy Research in Africa (APRA) is a five-year (2016-2021), research programme consortium funded by the Department for International Development (DFID) and builds on more than a decade of research and policy engagement work by FAC.
